BEAUTY BITES : FEBRUARY 2015
Today's post showcases my five beauty highlights of February. The month has been short and sweet and full of shopping excursions so decision was tough but the result is a fine-tuned and highly recommended selection of beauty heroines.
Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Madrague An unassuming and unexpected favourite; this neutral duo is easy to miss in the sea of colour which forms Nars' eyeshadow selection, but is a hidden gem indeed. There are bolder, brighter, and blingier shades out there [and when it comes to parting with £25 for a luxe eyeshadow it's forgivable to opt for something with a little more oomph!]. But if your MUJI drawers are overflowing with colour/glitter, and you fancy something a little different; Madrague is the one. Worn on their own these shades offer subtle definition and contour; which although discreet, can serve to widen and elongate the eye, as well as enhance the colour of the iris. Ideal for days when your morning routine is rushed for time [as minimal effort/blending is required], the shades have also fast become a part of my smokey eye routine.
Dr Paw Paw Original Balm After hearing Bridie extoll the virtues of this product in her recent Eyebrow 101 I purchased it almost immediately. Whilst castor oil has long been a staple in my daily brow maintenance routine [I massage it in before bed to encourage and shape growth] it has since been replaced by this sturdy yellow tube, with which I am 100% obsessed. Unlike castor oil [which is fairly runny] this has a thick balm consistency which allows you to brush your brows into shape and keeps them in place all night long. Since introducing this into my routine, I've noticed that the shape of my brows has held so much better. It's also got a super moisturising formula which gives the TLC necessary if you tint your brows [as I do], and also makes a lovely overnight lip balm.
Essie Nail Polish in Blanc Granted, it's been a short month, but I've worn nothing but Blanc on my nails all February long! There's something super chic about bright white tips, and white is one of few colours which I find suits my nails more when they are short than when they are long. Getting a bold and opaque finish is vital to perfecting the look, but true to form Essie's formula comes out tops - just one coat provides a solid block of colour.
Laura Mercier Ponytail Brush This makeup artists favourite has fast become my blending brush of choice. The head is small and gently tapered, the bristles soft and light, and the result? A delicate placement of colour and effortless blending. Ideal for eyeshadow newbies as you'd be hard-pressed to go overboard with this as your weapon of choice.
SUQQU Creamy Glow Moist Lipstick in Akadaidai* Despite its alarmingly bright appearance, the sheer formula of this lipstick means it deposits just a delicate tint of colour [alongside an intensive boost of moisture]. It's a surprisingly wearable shade, and has frequented my lips so regularly this month due to its ability to add that 'finishing touch' to an otherwise mundane and everyday makeup look.
