A Ridiculously Last Minute Gift Guide
There are very few things I miss about working in retail, but bizarrely, Christmas Eve on a shop floor is one of them. In fact, the two weeks leading up to The Big Day were always my favourite of the year. Namely because we were busy (which meant no pretending to look busy when a manager stalked past), but also because customers were (99% of the time anyway) usually happy, full of cheer, and eager to spend. Then of course we had my favourite customers, the clueless boyfriends and husbands who rarely showed up before the 23rd but came with a list the length of their arm and an unlimited budget - ‘any makeup, whatever, just keep it below £500’ was my favourite type of request and that which first led me to consider launching my beauty personal shopping service.
I’ve been too busy shopping for other people on behalf of other people to enjoy my own gift shopping this year. I normally have an iPhone Notes list of gift ideas for my close friends and family members by Halloween, but uncharacteristically I’ve become the type of person who has to check a website’s ‘last order’ dates before purchasing. In addition to my busy-ness I think the lack of festive vibes in general has is to blame. I very rarely buy gifts ‘IRL’ because you can nearly always find a better deal online, but this year I’ve realised how much I actually do love an overpriced mug of Christmas market mulled wine, eyeballing slow walkers, and raging about the audacity of people who dare to push a double buggy down Market Street at 2pm on a Saturday. Roll on December 2021, is all I can say.
Anyway, back to the gift guide, which is what you’re here for after all. I’ve rounded up some of the best beauty stocking fillers I’ve seen on my (virtual) shopping trips this year. Okay, some of them aren’t stocking sized and some are probably more main present status, but you get the gist. I can only hope that some of you are as unorganised as I am, and that this is actually of some use. Merry Christmas!
