Beauty Cult #2
Last month saw four lovely ladies contribute their cult beauty favourites to a new series on TGG. In today's post, four more swoon-worthy suggestions are made. Notebooks and pens at the ready ladies!
Rose - Beatles fanatic, bookworm, and Bake Off obsessive. After enduring weeks of severely dry skin, I finally discovered La Roche-Posay Hydreane Riche moisturiser. Just one application left my skin feeling unbelievably smooth and silky, and looking noticeably better hydrated. It's quite a rich cream but absorbs really well and works fantastically as a makeup base. For me the main advantage is that (like all La Roche-Posay products) it's non-comedogenic (oil free) so it doesn't clog my pores, causes blemishes, or aggravate my sensitive skin. I would recommend this product to anyone with dry, combination, or sensitive skin.
Kat - Recent Graduate turned full-time blog reader with a love for bright lipstick. When I first bought the REN ClearCalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser, it was definitely not love at first sight, in fact it earned top spot on my disappointing products list but now I can’t live without it. I’d originally bought it after Caroline Hirons raved about it on her blog (lets face it that woman is the queen of all things skin care) and with the promise of deeply cleansed skin and minimised pores, eagerly awaited its arrival in the post. My skin however, hated it, so it went to the back of a drawer with any hopes of a skincare love story dashed. Now I can’t tell you what made me try it again or what’s changed but my skin just can’t get enough of it, so much so I even have back-up bottles in my wardrobe. It really is the only product I trust to sort my skin out when a dreaded breakout appears. The clay like texture means you can really feel it working - I often leave it on for 5 minutes, creating a slightly more gentle clay mask, a cleanser and a face mask all in one - what’s not to love? REN’s ClearCalm3 promises to tackle three main causes of breakouts including excess sebum; build up of dead skin cells and blemish-causing bacteria, and I agree. If you have blemish-prone or oily skin and are in the market for a new cleanser I would definitely recommend giving this a go. Now excuse me while I slather this all over my skin, Festivals are not skin friendly! But Justin Timberlake, you were oh so worth it –swoon-.

It’s been a summer of minimal makeup for me, but the L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Waterproof Mascara has been stealing the show every single day. First, let’s take a moment to appreciate how it is totally usable from the minute you pop it open. You know those mascaras that are so wet they just get blooming' everywhere when you use them for the first few weeks?Yeah, not this baby. A few lashings of this magic and my short lil’ lashes are transformed into full, fluttery amazingness. On top of that, it holds a curl, doesn’t smudge at all even when I’m sweating profusely (sorry, but it’s true), and the flared “butterfly” wand helps you get all those teeny tiny lashes in the inner and outer corners. You can also really layer this on for a more dramatic effect and get away without any clumpage. Add a dash of color to the lips and you’re all set, bae.
Bridie - Part time beauty girl, full time eyebrow enthusiast and interiors obsessor. One product that has truly earned its cult label in my skincare routine is the Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. Deep, cystic acne eruptions are one of the worst to tackle, they're painful, there's nothing to 'pop' as such and can take weeks to subside alone. The contraceptive implant regularly used to trigger these types of breakouts for me so after purchasing it on a whim I was genuinely amazed to find it could quell a nasty eruption overnight. Fortunately for me, the removal of the implant instantly stemmed the breakouts however, I have never been so astounded with the performance of a product and for this reason it remains firmly in my artillery for any stress or hormonal related nasties. I couldn't contribute to this post without mentioning my holy grail nude lip products: Chanel Le Crayon Lēvres in '34 Natural' and Tom Ford Lip Colour in Blush Nude. These two are a marriage made in heaven both the colour and formula win hands down. P.S. don't dismiss the importance of the liner not only does it give you a fuller pout but it completely eliminates any risk of "concealer lips" and well, that's imperative when stepping into nude territory.
And my pick for this month's beauty cult? The Body Shop's Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder - in its lightest shade providing the pale girl's answer to that end-of-summer glow without the hassle of appearing a) like an oompa-loompa, or b) to have tribal markings down your cheeks. Unlike other budget bronzers this one avoids the mistake of cramming in chunks of glitter (seriously why??) leaving a matte finish, as au naturel as they come. Pair with a good bronzing brush and build colour lightly just beneath the cheekbones for a subtle contour or dust all over for a sun kissed glow a la Olsen.
