SUQQU A/W'15 'THE NEW TYPE OF CLASSIC'
A stalwart of a certain type of cool, contemporary beauty, SUQQU never fails to release collections that inspire a refreshing and original take on current trends - with innovative products and creative colour palettes swept up in an elusive edge of chic. More so than almost any other collection this season, 'A New Kind of Classic' encompasses [and indeed epitomises] some of the season's most defining universal trends [from a dark lip through to a radiant base and a naturally flushed cheek]. Taking traditional autumnal shades and reworking them with a fresh texture and finish in order to provide a truly modern appraisal of a classic autumnal look.
With a separate launch devoted to the autumn collection's base products, SUQQU more than established the fact that come A/W'15, skin is most definitely in. For SUQQU this was less about creating an all-in-one skin-perfecting foundation, and more about a concise and versatile selection of products, easily customised and designed to blend together in order to achieve a naturally flawless complexion.
The collection's inspiration lies in contrast, seeking to achieve elegance through a combination of depth and lightness, modernity and femininity. These are products for a practical lifestyle - but one that that calls for exquisite taste and elegant refinement. The SUQQU woman reaches for subtle makeup enhancements to build upon the results of her scrupulous skincare routine. Unafraid to sport a bold lip or a vivid coloured eye, the versatile and adaptable products allow her to adapt the seasonal trends with a unique and wholly personal twist.
The cornerstone of the collection is a customisable palette of eight concealing and highlighting shades, which allow for precision coverage of dark circles and blemishes, whilst evening out a blotchy skintone and countering pigmentation issues. Applied with a small foundation brush, the base appears completely natural, fresh, and unified. Despite the deceiving name, the Colour Foundation Sticks* present the perfect combination of sculpting shades; available in Coral, Pink, and Beige, the sheer, creamy pigment is designed to be applied straight to the face and then blended out in order to define facial structure. Offering a perfecting finishing touch, the Cheek & Face Colour palettes present two shades, which can be used separately to enhance colour and glow where necessary or together for a luminous refining finish. Drawing inspiration from classic autumnal shades [burgundy, khaki, and navy] the Blend Colour Eyeshadows* add a warmth and depth to the light, natural look. Blend the cream formula shade across the entire lid with your finger before blending the darkest shade across the lid from outer to inner in order to create a gradient effect. Dab the lightest shade into the inner corner of the lid before gently buffing the final colour along the lower half of the eyelid. The look voids use of mascara, but in order to define the lash line, prescribes a delicate trace of pigment in an even line from inner corner to outer. The creamy formula of the Gel Eyeliner Pencil* sets within minutes, so blend it immediately to create a more dramatic smoky eye look. With an intensely hydrating, balm-like formula and fresh, sheer finish, the Creamy Glow Moist Lipstick* places a modern, wearable spin upon three deep and classically autumnal shades - dab on for a fresh, dewy effect.The collection also contains a pair of delicate pink nail colours, each a pearlescent, milky hue with a sheer finish that negates any need for excessive layering.
I adore cream blushes for their fresh, dewy finish [a far more flattering effect than their heavier powder counterparts], however those in palettes are notoriously difficult to apply. The past year has seen base products of every type packaged in neat stick forms, finally as effortlessly portable as your lipstick and mascara. This fresh, natural muted peach-pink allows for a subtle sculpting effect and provides a delicate enhancement of warmth and colour without detracting from a vibrant eye look. Soft, creamy, and blendable, the product is a joy to use, with a weightless texture but strong pigment that stays in place for hours.
Despite appearing intensely pigmented upon first sight, the watery-matte texture renders these shades sheer and soft upon application. Each colour is as elegant and wearable as the next, and even the vivid navy hue appears wearable and super flattering when blended with the warm pink-toned brown. With four uniquely textured formulas, palette is perfectly constructed to provide a foolproof eyeshadow experience - even the novice will find success in use.
For me, the most exciting element of the collection [and thankfully a permanent addition to the brand's main line], this is well and truly the trump card of the eyeliner world. Its success lies in a formula that encompasses the smooth finish of a liquid liner, the precision application of a felt-tip pen, and the pigmentation of a kohl crayon, in one. The 2mm nib allows for intricate application [perfect if you like to define your lash line from right between the lashes], depositing product in a smooth, creamy texture that melts onto the skin before locking down to a matte, opaque finish. As an added bonus, no sharpener is required.
Although I tend to gravitate towards beige-pinks and nudes in my everyday lipstick choices, for the past month this has been a concrete handbag staple, out in action no matter what the occasion. The warm, muted red epitomises a classic autumn lip, but applies in a surprisingly sheer and wearable formula, which will surprise and delight even those wary of sporting a scarlet hue. A single layer deposits just a hint of colour and sheen, but can easily be built up for a deeper, bolder effect without reaching full opacity. The effect is a lip that maintains its own without detracting focus from a bold eye or glowing complexion.
