Skincare to Beat the January Blues
It's the time of the year when the phrase 'every little helps' applies to more than just our food bills - the January blues are for real, and today's post is set to be a big 'boo you' to the effects which they unleash upon our complexions. For me, dull, tired, lacklustre skin is a common occurrence come New Year, and when it comes to skincare, it's the little things which will help us to get our complexions back to their brightest and clearest.
Aside from stocking up on supplements [zinc and Omega-3] and guzzling green tea and fruit-infused water, in the past three weeks I've compiled a skincare line-up guaranteed to perform the instant refresh my winter-ravished skin so desperately needs. See below for my favourites.
Racinne Advanced Luminous Gel* The only product I have worn under my makeup in recent weeks, this soothing lightweight gel acts as both intensive moisturiser and mattifying primer, providing the perfect base for makeup as well as leaving skin instantly hydrated. Without leaving a hint of residue, it preps my skin perfectly for makeup application and provides some serious and long-lasting GLOW [the good way].
Radical Instant Revitalising Mask* In my book the words 'January' and 'revitalising' walk along hand-in-hand, so with good reason this mask has been at the forefront of my stash this month. Unlike the face masks I usually reach for, this one prioritises hydration over cleansing - rich in nutrients and minerals, it aims to increase oxygen distribution and improve cell turnover. It's an active mask, so changes in texture [with an intriguing bubbling sensation] before dissolving from the face completely. Gentle enough to use on a regular basis, it always leaves me with baby-soft skin and a noticeably more radiant complexion.
Sisley Botanical Detox* The name alone is 100% January appropriate, and [if you're that way inclined] this is the perfect skincare accompaniment to your juice cleanse. Designed as an intensive 30-day treatment, if you're planning a hardcore skincare detox then this will undoubtedly be the star of your line-up. Think of it as a good night's sleep in a bottle - guaranteed to combat the effects of stress and fatigue, you can expect clearer, brighter, and softer skin by the time February crawls around.
Jurlique Skin Balancing Face Oil* A good face oil will moisturise, balance, and protect the skin from environmental aggressors, and Jurlique's ticks all of these boxes, and more. Instantly hydrating and moisturising, this is the perfect antidote to dry and dehydrated skin - guaranteed to soothe and calm any particularly sore patches, it works wonders upon my skin's texture, leaving it smooth, soft, and with a renewed elasticity. New Year, new skin - why not?
Verso Super Eye Serum* The end of 2014 saw my once religious eye cream use become a relic of the past, so 2015 is all about jumping back on the eye-care bandwagon. My under-eye concealer always sits so much better when I'm using an eye cream and Verso's always works super fast so has become a staple on my bedside table this month. It's incredibly cooling and soothing, and works wonders on those dark bags which always seem to make their appearance come January.
Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Serum If your skin's way of welcoming in the New Year is to freak out [and break out] and refuse to accept all of those lovely lotions and potions it used to love, then meet the product guaranteed to be the arch-nemesis to your New Year hyper-sensitivity. This serum applies as a thick gloopy gel, which absorbs quickly, and has an instantly soothing and calming effect. Designed to hydrate, replenish, and protect the skin, it also delivers a potent cocktail of anti-oxidants, ensuring you'll see in a New Year in skincare with an A+ start.
