Cleansing Balms Compiled
When it comes to overhauling my skincare routine for the winter, cleansing balms feature high on my list of products to include. Rich and soothing, they're perfect for countering the drying effects of cold weather and central heating, and provide some much needed care and nourishment alongside a hefty bout of hydration. I'm also confident in the fact that no method of cleansing is quite so relaxing or luxurious as massaging a beautifully-scented liquid into my skin on a daily basis. Here's my cleansing balm roundup, guaranteed to give you ALL the inspiration you need for your next cleansing balm pick.
RMK Cleansing Balm A solid balm which melts into a fine, silky oil upon application, this rose-scented offering is the ultimate luxury cleanser. Enriched with grape seed, jojoba, and avocado oils for optimal moisturisation, it removes even the toughest of makeup, and is gentle enough to use on the eyes. I reach for this when I have the time to turn my cleansing routine into something more of a massage.
Eve Lom Cleanser* The UK's best-selling cleanser infamously divides skincare lovers over its inclusion of mineral oil. I'm personally a huge huge fan (and have very sensitive, spot-prone skin) so it really is down to the individual (if you're hesitant then pick up a sample from Space NK). Expertly formulated to suit all skin types and concerns, this cleanser leaves my skin feeling instantly decongested and brighter but also deeply nourished and soft. I adore the thick, heavy consistency - it's gently exfoliating and incredibly indulgent.
No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Balm One of my biggest winter skincare tips would be to use products which are designed specifically for dry skin. Even if you'd describe your skin as 'combination' or 'normal', this will prevent the inevitable side effects of the weather's worst. Between icy cold winds and stale central heating, rapid changes in temperature can play havoc upon our skin. No7's offering aims to cleanse, comfort, and moisturise very dry skin, so is the perfect antidote. It's incredibly gentle and nurturing, works a treat as a second cleanser, and won't break the bank (especially with those £5 vouchers).
MOA The Green Balm* A do-it-all product (quite literally, the list of its uses is endless), this soothing, nourishing balm is as ideal for sensitive and blemish prone skin as it is for drier skin types. It removes eye makeup without irritation, calms and heals blemishes (via the inclusion of tea tree oil and yarrow), and (with a few minutes of massage) tones the facial muscles and encourages lymph circulation. An ideal multi-tasker if you have dry but blemish-prone skin - I always reach for this cleanser during the worst of my winter breakouts.
One Love Skin Saviour Another much-loved multi-tasker, the main ingredient of this balm is coconut oil (which pretty much says it all), so expect to say hello to soft, glowing, hydrated skin within a week of use. This is as effective on the most dehydrated areas of my skin as it is on the oiler areas, and is fantastic at bringing balance and clarity to my skin. This also makes a great moisturiser, so if you're prone to very dry patches of skin would make a great overnight mask.
Sarah Chapman Skinesis Ultimate Cleanse* This gently exfoliating cleanser has a soft gel-like consistency, which (with the addition of a little water) becomes more lotion than oil. It's perfect for those with oilier skin types, who are wary of using anything too rich upon their skin but still seek the hydrating, nourishing effects of a balm cleanser.
