Desktop Beauty

A few weeks ago I detailed the products that I keep to hand on my bedside table, today’s post takes us to another room in the flat - the study. For me, beauty always goes beyond the bathroom/dressing table, and I’ll hazard a guess that I’m not the only one to have a different hand cream/lip balm in every room of the house. If I have a day of writing or studying ahead of me then there are a selection of products which I like to keep to hand for desktop emergencies (read: indulgences). A selection usually compact enough to be stowed into a makeup bag should my work require relocation to the library or my favourite coffee shop.

Crabtree & Evelyn India Hicks Island Living Hand Cream* Any hand cream that saves me from flapping my hands in the air or typing tentatively with my fingertips for five minutes is a desktop winner in my book. A permanent fixture upon my desk at home, this is my favourite hand cream to use whilst I’m working as it sinks instantly into my hands without leaving any stickiness or residue.

Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub As winter approaches I'm making more of an effort to take care of my lips (which once the cold northern winds strike, become the Sahara desert of my face). As well as layering on the lip balm throughout the day and before bed, I try to exfoliate them with a lip scrub once a day. A basic lip scrub is very easy to make with just a handful of store cupboard ingredients, but if you fancy something with a little more oomph, opt for Lush's jojoba oil infused offerings. They have a range of flavours, but my favourite, bubblegum, tastes like candyfloss. Always a bonus.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar A.I. For those blemishes which rear their ugly heads mid-way through the day and require instantaneous action without a mad dash to the bathroom. This is one of few spot treatments I’ve used which has continued to be effective no matter how often I use it. A quick dab upon the effected area is guaranteed to stop even the nastiest of blemishes right in their tracks.

Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in 19 Gabrielle For occasions when sitting at my desk in my PJs with my hair in a messy bun for the fourth day in a row is starting to have an effect upon my essay writing morale. A dash of red lipstick is a surefire way to make me feel the motivation necessary to tackle anything from an 8000 word essay to a mammoth post-weekend to-do list.

Byredo Bullion Perfume Oil* Like the above, a perfume is one of those minute details which somehow manages to make a lot of a difference. I adore the subtle, elegant scent of this Byredo classic - a little of which goes a long way, and is guaranteed to add an element of luxury and sophistication to even the most tiring and stressful of days.

Chanel Les Beiges Powder Compact As essential as my phone or house keys, this compact accompanies me everywhere, without fail. Whether I’m in need of a fresh application of powder to keep my makeup in place and the dreaded 3pm shine at bay, or a chic way to check up upon a precarious hairstyle or bold lipstick application, I’d be lost without this.

Aesop Immediate Moisture Facial Hydrosol* Not just a hot weather essential - if I'm feeling a little tired or worn-down then a quick spritz of this rose petal-infused facial mist is guaranteed to revive and refresh both my skin and my mind.

The Body Shop Facial Massager Not one which accompanies me on my travels, for obvious reasons! However, if I’m deep in thought, or reading a long article then I automatically reach for this. I try to incorporate some form of facial massage into my routine everyday and this is an infallible way to do so. Multitasking for fools.
