July Style Picks | 2014

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetI must confess, the summer sales really did get the better of me this year. A few trips to Manchester, including a visit to the Trafford Centre (my Mecca), and of course a hella lot of online shopping has well and truly emptied my bank account. However I am well and truly in love with my purchases so guilt is not a word I'm bandying around much this month. Topshop Casual Chambray Shirt I think it's safe to say that (alongside the Birkenstocks), blue chambray shirts are a summer 2014 staple. I never felt the need but after weeks of Pinterest brainwashing I hit order on this one. I usually find shirts really uncomfortable to wear and unflattering but this has a lovely loose, flowing fit and is so soft and light. The kind of thing that (a few years down the line) will find itself a staple in my loungewear drawer. For now I've been wearing it loose over jeans or tucked into a floral skirt.

Zara Frilly Skirt This isn't actually the kind of piece that I'd usually buy but during a recent 'trying to get my Zara basket up to £50 for free delivery' session I decided to pop it in. Plus it's waffle material and I'm a fool for all things waffle (edible or not). I've actually worn this more than any of the other items that I ordered. It is so pretty and summery and actually makes my legs look kinda tan...

ASOS Dockland Plimsolls in Navy Floral I fell in love with these plimsolls several months ago and justified a trip to London as the excuse to invest in some "comfortable footwear". First wearing these on an insanely hot couple of days whilst trekking around the capital was not one of my greatest ideas and my feet were consequently torn to shreds. Anyone else find their DofE blisters get revived with every new pair of shoes?? These were then shoved (bloodstains and all) into the back of the shoe cupboard until further notice. Still desperate to wear them (I mean look at that pattern) I recently decided to brave a trip to the shop to them and voila, a rub-free walk! Post-break in these are super comfy, light, and easy to wear. So just you try and stop me.

ASOS Swing Cami Top I like to think of this black strappy cami as the everyday answer to the 'little black dress'. It's so versatile - one of the few pieces in my wardrobe which can double up as being night out appropriate but also acceptable emergency sleepwear. I'll dress it up with heels, a mini skirt, and plenty of gold jewellery for an evening out, wear it with jeans, Birks, and an oversized cardigan by day, then pair it with leggings and slippers for Sunday downtime. Loose, soft, and with a really pretty cut that gives it a little more finesse than your average vest top - I'll most certainly be investing in multiple colours after this month's paycheque.
