July Beauty Favourites
For once July has actually felt pretty summery! Britain has enjoyed a mini-heatwave and I've spent the majority of my days sunning myself in the garden with a good book and a mojito. Here are the products I enjoyed most during the month of sunshine.
Mac 'Saigon Summer' Cremesheen Lipstick - £14
I've been craving an orange lipstick for a while and had a kind of 'ideal' shade in my head which nothing in Boots could satisfy. I decided to check out Mac, renowned as the 'go-to' brand for lipstick. I really liked the Hayley Williams special edition 'Sounds Like Noise' but sadly it was sold out. The closest shade I could find was 'Saigon Summer' which was a tad more orange, but very similar.I was quite taken aback at just how orange and bright this was upon opening, but it is much more subtle and coral-ish when applied. It's a great summery colour and goes with pretty much everything.
La Roche-Posay Hydreane Light Moisturizing Cream for Sensitive Skin - £11
For the past few years I've been pretty faithful to my Lush 'Enzymion' moisturiser. However, I've been on the hunt for a similarly lightweight day cream which works well under makeup but that is a little more travel friendly. I struck gold with this La Roche-Posay favourite. It's super light, soaks straight into my skin, and smells AMAZING. Think French, floral, and expensive. It's almost Chanel-like by scent and works really well under my foundation, with no shine at all. Perfect for the warmer months when an unwanted greasy forehead is more likely to make an appearance.
Lush 'Volcano' foot mask - £5.75
I hate anything 'feet' and tend to ignore the fact that I have anything below my ankle, but in the warmer months it's hard to ignore the dastardly things, especially after a long hot day in heels. My mum purchased this recently but I've used up pretty much all of it over the last month. You basically apply it like a face mask then wrap your feet in cling-film (weird I know) and leave it for a while before washing off. It's gently exfoliating and smells lovely, for me it has the 'Christmas smell', cloves and oranges. Not a particularly summery scent, but it leaves my feet feeling clean and ready to face the world.
Bioderma Sensibo H2O Micellar Solution - £9.99
I reviewed this recently so won't go into too much detail. This product was a lifesaver for me at the beginning of the month when I spent a week volunteering at a steam railway. After seven 9 to 5 days working alongside coal, oil, engines, and grease it was safe to say that my face was in dire need of a facial. However I don't quite know how my skin would have survived the week without my daily wipe of Bioderma. Whilst the cotton pad at first came away jet black, after a few wipes my skin was as good as new.
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 'Fair' - £4.19
Considered to be a cult budget beauty product amongst bloggers, I've been eager to try out this concealer for a while now. Reviews claim it to be every bit as good as luxury brand concealers by the likes of Nars and Dior. Whilst I cannot make this comparison, using this has left me wondering how on earth I've managed 20 years on this planet without ever using concealer. It's amazing how much difference a few dabs of this under the eye can make. I apply this by dotting it on with the applicator and then blending it in with my Real Techniques Foundation Brush (fingers really doesn't seem to work for me). It blends really well without looking cakey or obvious and helps with both blemishes and under-eye darkness.
