May Beauty Favourites
Choosing the products for this post made for a few hard decisions as I have been a little spend-happy this month so there were a lot of contenders! In the end I opted for the products that I have used most often this month and feel worked best for me.
Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder SPF 15+ Compact - £38
I've devoted a seperate post to this compact as I absolutely love it, but I've been using it a lot this month. I try to avoid wearing foundation as often as possible, but when I go out I do like to wear something that gives some light coverage and prevents shine without being too heavy or ostentatious. Chanel Les Beiges is the perfect contender. It also looks great when worn over foundation and is of course ideal for travelling and touching up makeup on the go.
Lush 'Rub Rub Rub' Shower Scrub - £7.95
I love Lush shower gels but have never tried out one of their shower scrubs before. I may be featuring this in May (pardon the pun), but it is the perfect summer shower product. It smells fresh and clean, almost beachy but with a fruity kick. Made with big seasalt chunks, this is VERY exfoliating so I don't use it every time I shower. Great for getting rid of dry/rough skin and freshening up after a day of sunbathing.
Real Techniques 'Core Collection' Brushes - £21.99
I purchased these after reading rave reviews and because I don't really have an established collection of makeup brushes. Until now I used Benefit and Eco Tools brushes which were great but after using the Real Techniques I don't think I'll be going back! These brushes are a dream to use. The buffing brush applies my mineral foundation (Bare Minerals Original SPF 15) perfectly, and blends the product really well, creating a more smooth and even finish than my Eco Tools buffing brush did. The contour brush is perfect for applying contour and highlight to the cheekbones, and the detailer brush is great for the tinier details of both eyes and lips. I haven't yet used the foundation brush as I don't tend to use liquid foundation.
Soap and Glory 'Arch de Triumph' Eyebrow Shaper and Highlighter - £8
I have quite patchy, mis-shaped eyebrows as a result of scarring from childhood chicken-pox and misguided attempts at plucking by my teenage self, so have been filling them in for a few years now. When I first started, the only drugstore product available was the Rimmel Professional Eye Brow Pencil (£2.99) and I've used this for a few years now without looking at other options despite the fact that eyebrow filling/shaping has become more popular and there are a lot more products available. I actually only picked this up because Boots had a 3 for 2 offer on Soap and Glory products and I was stuck for a third. I absolutely LOVE it. It's a far truer colour match for my eyebrows than Rimmel's version which was a little reddish in colour. It's also a harder pencil so doesn't look too crayon-y when applied. If you are looking for an eyebrow pencil that looks natural as opposed to 'Scouse brow' then this is ideal.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo - £13
Again, another product I 've already featured an entire blog post on, I cannot sing enough praises for this product. I've been using it for a few months now and my skin continues to look better and better even when I think further improvement must be be impossible. My acne scars and red marks are reducing and I barely suffer any breakouts. My skin looks and feels a lot smoother and is visibly less red and troubled looking. If you're looking for motivation to splash out on this let this post be your final spur.
