SOS HAIRCARE : PART II

When it comes to skincare we're well versed in a 'with damage, follows repair' protocol, but despite the fact that our hair is subjected to just as much strain as our skin, alongside the [not-so-pleasant] aftershocks that follow frequent shampooing, overzealous brushing, and scorching hot water and air, we're less diligent when it comes to assiduous haircare.

THE GOLDEN AGE

Chronology has gone to pot and I'm following up THE BRONZE AGE with THE GOLDEN AGE, a post dedicated to the humble highlighter. Favouring a highlighter above all other makeup-related purchases, I strongly believe that when it comes to adding finesse to your makeup look, the Midas touch is the finishing touch. A golden glow is most definitely in and with summer an already distant memory and the highlighter/illuminator a more popular product than ever, it's time to banish that Miss Havisham-esque chalky pallor in favour of something a little more Shirley Eaton in Goldfinger.

RADIANCE REVIVAL

'Glow' is the undisputed beauty buzzword of the season, with everything from foundation to toner promising to infuse skin with radiance and dewiness. Enter masking, where recent launches [notably the Origins mask immediately below - the inspiration for this feature] prove that masks are no longer simply divided between just two camps [moisturising and cleansing]. Instead, thanks to innovative formulas and high-tech ingredients, we can now anticipate bright, dewy, and healthy skin in a matter of moments. For, in order to achieve truly radiant skin, we need to go that extra step further than simply a basic skincare routine. Face masks may appear to be the one-stop wonders of the skincare world, but when used on a frequent and regular basis, will make all the difference in boosting your skin to next level luminosity.

SUNCARE FOR YOUR HAIR, IT'S A THING

We're all more than aware the being out in the sun without SPF protection is bad for our skin. Less obvious is the equal need to protect our hair from the sun's harmful rays, which fade colour and deplete moisture - resulting in evidence of the common distress signals of unhealthy hair [weak and brittle strands, dry ends, and frizziness]. Coloured hair is particularly vulnerable and sensitive to the oxidation caused by sun exposure, which will instantly fade colour, but even natural hair pigment is faded with sun exposure and will suffer noticeable moisture loss. With prolonged exposure, free radicals that attack hair will also incite the ageing process, weakening and thinning hair, and resulting in a noticeable loss of volume.

SUMMER HAIR ESSENTIALS

Effortless styling creams and multi-purpose texturising sprays are a godsend in the warmer months, and prove that efficient hair products needn't be bland. This season’s hair - loose, gutsy, textured like you spent the morning running on the beach - can be delightfully fun and will instantly transport you into holiday mode.
